⁷⁹ Apollonius, however, had left a thousand cavalry concealed behind them. ⁸⁰ Jonathan realized that there was an ambush behind him, for his army was surrounded and showered with arrows from morning until evening. ⁸¹ But his men held their ground as Jonathan had ordered, while the enemy’s horses became weary.
